I will be honest, I liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Just a few clicks and a customer can set an order using a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a price tag. A large one.
That is just one the very few freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and outright blackmail sellers any way they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye on it.
In this post, I want to share a recent bad experience for a vendor on Fiverr, and also why I chose to give up on the stage entirely.
(I've been advising her on building a reputable accounts, and the way to go above and beyond every last order. Everything mentioned is that her doing, I'm just an audience )
In this case, she had just gotten another $5 order on her emblem gig, which appeared to be just like any other... or so we believed.
The purchase was fulfilled in good time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus logo concept in addition to the source file (which is usually a part of the costlier package).
The customer"loved" one of those concepts and so we proceeded to send her the appropriates file sizes, as mentioned in the gig description.
The client came back requesting a social media kit to go with the logo, something that is obviously not available as a member of her or his gig.
Against my advice, my girlfriend decided to deliver the additional work, despite not getting paid any extra for it.
After that, the client responded with more demands and a few alterations to the social media files.
At this time, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this person, they were clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the client went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to contemplate a response and reach out to Fiverr service for assistance, the customer did finally go ahead and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she was Fiverr Review- Why Should You Sign Up? Check Out My Review and ... not kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the support question, the client paid an additional $10 for the social networking kit.
Obviously, the payment has been accompanied by yet another threat.
Now, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so that I could repeatedly punch them from the face.
But, at the moment, I had hope that Fiverr service would step in and save my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
When the response came from Fiverr service, they told her they couldn't What is your review of Fiverr? - Quora induce the purchaser to accept the purchase.
Alright, that is reasonable enough. (though the buyer already accepted it, technically.)
They also suggested drawing up a listing for the buyer to demonstrate the work has been done in accordance with the gig prerequisites.
Frankly, this reply just didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her first email that the customer was hoping to extort her for free work out the agreed periods, by leaving a negative inspection if she didn't comply.
Needless to say, it wasn't really about the job, it had been about seeking protection against an abusive customer who had been blatantly pushing his luck.
Their answer didn't provide either of us any confidence that Fiverr actually understood , and even in this stage we felt as though they did not want to get involved.
At the exact same time, she responded to the buyers newest threat, explaining that she would not continue to operate with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be feedback that visit site was clearly and intentionally left to bully her to supplying work outside of the agreed conditions )
An honest petition by anyones standards, right? Well, apparently not.
As opposed to acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this time, Fiverr immediately turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the one breaking all of the rules.
Since she had asked the client to modify their opinions, she was no longer entitled to any help from Fiverr support.
It's possible to imagine how we felt reading this.
Everything that the purchaser had said and done before her last message was now being swept under the rug -- like never happened whatsoever.
Fiverr essentially decided to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain on an accounts she had worked so tough to accumulate.
If everything that happened was not troubling enough, it's knowing that this man is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers with no sprinkling of repercussion.
And think, there are loads of buyers doing precisely that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will eliminate it.
Well, as all of this was occurring, I did some investigating to determine if some other vendors went through a similar ordeal with an individual purchaser.
Very quickly, I found a number of almost identical cases over the Fiverr forum dated years back. (that's right, decades.)
This is clearly something which's been happening for quite a while and it stems from giving buyers also much power over sellers.
If there's 1 thing I've learned about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how long that you put into a project, or just how hard you worked on itor perhaps how long you handled communication in a dispute, as it really comes down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it's a very clear cut situation in your favor, there is still every chance the customer will come out at the top. All it takes it one tiny thing that you"did wrong" in accordance with their conditions of service and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Looking at the evidence, it's obvious to me Fiverr is well aware of what is happening, yet remains willing to sit back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker in Fiverr and you are reading this, then I urge you to seriously reconsider your current support procedures for freelancers.
It is not right that someone can place all the time and effort into establishing an account and over-delivering at every possible opportunity, just to be shot down by the very people you rely on to protect you.
Look, I do not need to leave Fiverr. I don't want to be telling people to prevent your system.
But after everything that's occurred, you have not left me any decision.
Until something is done to protect freelancers from this kind of abuse, I will continue to propagate this article and do whatever I could to prevent others from falling victim to a one-sided support team.
The next you really do something about it and also provide freelancers a means to fight back, I'll be happy to update this article.
